Great Band names

Night before last was LONG. Jason was out getting a friend from the airport until 4:30. I kept waking up wondering when he was going to get home. During one of these groggy moments, an idea occurred to me, as they ate wont to in groggy moments.

You know what would be a great band name?

Fines may be doubled

Wow, yes, this is what my mind said to me. When I remembered that this morning, I remembered a great thread on a message board that Jason frequents, and I visit from time to time. It was guess the band name. One person would post a picture, or series of pictures and then everyone else would guess. It was like rebus. However, I was not that great at it. I saw a series of pictures similar to these, the big difference being that the third picture was a man turning a hand drill against his temple (okay pretending to):

I yelled out "Couch Baby Crank Horse!" This is not, has never been, and will never be the name of a band. However, at that moment, I knew what I would call any bad I would ever be in. Including my guitar hero band. That one kinda got abbreviated, Couchbabycrankhor, but that was still awesome. So, can anyone out there guess what the band ACTUALLY was? I'll give you one hint. The guy in the original drill picture looked insane...

Labor Day!

Ahh, the joys of a long weekend, the confusion that follows you into the week. And I'm not talking drinking. Every time I have a long weekend, I spend the next week trying to remember what day it is. Yeah. So really, it's Tuesday right now. Yeah. We did the usual labor day rib fest marathon, but less this year than in years past. We saw Shooter Jennings, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Johnny Lang, and Ted Nugent. My favorite was Johnny Lang. I think he could ave played for another 3 hours and I would have enjoyed it.

I also shopped more than I should have. I got a new purse, new perfume, and new shoes. Jason also got shoes, and a new reel for his fishing pole. It has red holes in it. Yep. I don't really know what they are for, but they sure look cool! Jason also got a new phone, albeit unintentionally. The screen on his 5 month old phone quit working. They didn't have any of his model (other than in pink) to replace it with, so they gave him a new phone! Barring any bill surprises, it's the best customer service we've gotten from Sprint. That says a lot.

We went to see Hancock and the dollar movies, and boy, was it crowded. One of the best things, however, was a sunset as we were waiting for skyconcert to begin. For those of you not from Indy, skyconcert is an annual fireworks show that is set to music. It is fun every year! I can honestly say that I don't enjoy just fireworks as much as I used to before I started going to skyconcert.

There was a great sunset on the White River just before the show. Take a look:

Honeymoon Day 7 and 8!

Wow! Two days in one post! Only because there isn't too much to say about our last day on the cruise. We were at sea, Jason was in pain, and we had honeymoon package stuff to do! We attended a "cake party" and had some cake with a couple from Scotland whose clothes had been lost by their airline. We received some gross canapes in our room, and for dinner, we were off to the fanciest restaurant on the boat: Le Bistro. It was French. If you know Jason and I, our taste runs more to the barbecue than the haute. But, it was part of our honeymoon package so we went for it. I wore a black dress and when we were seated, I was asked for the first time ever in my life if a white napkin was okay, or if I would prefer to have a black one. Ummm, white was fine, I didn't need to match my dress... So we looked at the menu. There was NOTHING on there that looked good. So, we just went for it. I ordered escargot. You all know what that is, right? Then I also chose duck al'orange, because it sounded palatable. Jason got some cheese thing and a stuffed chicken with those mushrooms that creep me out. The shape and sponginess are repellent. I know people like them but eeeeeeeew. The part I was looking forward to was dessert. I had ordered freedom pudding. Remember when they were re-naming french fries in the capital's cafeteria? At that point Jason's step-mother wanted a torch for Christmas to make creme brulee. Jason thought that was too French and that it should be called freedom pudding. Thus, a legend was born.

So we are sitting there drinking our free wine and waiting for our free escargot and stuff. Here's a summation:

Escargot are kinda good if you can stop thinking about what you are eating
yuck
yuck
yuck
yuck
HOLY MOLEY It's on fire! (the set the duck aflame at a nearby table)
yuck
yuck
yuck
yuck
Creme Brulee is great!

The end. Overall, I'm sure tons of people enjoy French food. I just happen to know two who don't. It was edible, sure, but it wasn't anything I'd ask for again. Except the creme brulee. Yum.

The next morning we were set to get off of the ship. We had chosen the "express" option, to take our own luggage. It was quick and easy. Customs was a cinch. By 8:45 we were in the car and on our way to: UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!

We arrived there and parked in a huge garage that had ET to help us remember where we parked. As we got out of the car, we realized that the overhead speakers were playing the ET music. That was genius. There were a million moving sidewalks that took us to the "City Walk" a place with restaurants, and a big movie theater, and a sunglasses stand that for some reason I now needed (oops). Then we headed for the part of the park we wanted to see most, Islands of Adventure. Before I go any farther, I want to explain that we had tickets for the Blue Man Group show that evening, and therefore a severely limited time in the park. We would really like to go back for a longer time, like a week. Islands of adventure consists of a bunch of smaller areas that are themed. The first one we went to and my obvious favorite was:

Marvel island.

We got there and the first thing we saw was a gift shop. I got a squished penny with Rogue on it. I am such a dork. We wandered around taking pictures of everything and decided to go on the spiderman ride. The wait was short, and then we got some 3D glasses and got on the ride. It was really cool. I'm pretty sure that the actual real space for the ride was small, but it felt big. Plus, there were effects like water spraying on us, and fire heating up our burnt faces. It was superfun. We looked a little while longer around Marvel Island and since the only other rides were an Incredible Hulk coaster with a long line, and a Storm teacups ride, we moved on through a cartoon island to Jurassic Park.

Talk about cool. There were jeeps and all kinds of props and stuff everywhere. We decided to go on a river ride, and this next part is going to get kinda depressing and soapboxy, so watch out.

So, there we were, standing in line, and Jason and I saw a little lizard. Nothing scary or poisonous, just a little anole or skink, or whatever. We were looking at it, but in front of us in line were this bunch of terrible, low class loud people. You know the type, loud, scantily clad, and annoying. Well, they see the lizard, and they are scared of it. A tiny harmless lizard. One of them tries to kick it with their shoe, and another one "accidentally" stepped on it and killed it. I was really upset. That poor little lizard, just walking along when these unreasonable people kill it. I was almost ready to get out f line, but there was really no way out unless we fought our way through a huge line. So, we stay on, and I'm really upset. The mean people go, and we get on the ride. As we sit down, we see another lizard and another person behind us sees it too. What is their choice? They spit on it. Never have I more wanted to excuse myself from the human race in general. I know I've killed my fair share of bugs etc, but they were so callous. It was awful. As the boat pulled away, I decided to get over it and enjoy the ride. I was able to for a minute, but I'm still upset by those people to this day.

So, soapbox put away. The ride was fun. I knew it was a log flume like ride, but I sure didn't expect it to drop when it did. It was fun. After that, we walked on through the rest of the islands and since we were short on time, we moved on to the actual universal studios park. There we walked through a nickelodeoney area, and made our way to a cool fake street, where there were blues brothers, and singers. A lot of the store fronts were from movies and stuff. It was really cool. There was a guy fake playing the saxophone and a woman who was really singing. Charlotte had told us not to miss The Mummy ride, so we made a beeline.

Even the line for the Mummy was cool. All of the rides we ad gone on had interesting things in the lines, like models of the cars, or other interactive stuff. The ride itself was AWESOME. It went all around and the best part was when we stopped and the ceiling was ON FIRE. It was really good. Then it was time for Blue Man.

The show was different than the ones we had seen previously, I'll write a full review later, but it was really fun, especially the paper part! We tried to go to hard rock cafe for dinner, got terrible service and decided to leave. We made our way to the house we were borrowing and crashed. Whew!

Johnny Appleseed, Dogs, and Whirligigs

Boy, oh, boy have I been busy. This week at work, I've got 2 class visits tomorrow, both on Johnny Appleseed, who I know NOTHING about until this week, storytime on Thursday, and about a million other things to do!

This weekend was fun though. Saturday, we got up, thought we were going to the bridal show, and found out when we got there that it wasn't until Sunday. Oops. So we went to my Mom's house for some paid labor, and then went home to scrub all of the dirt off.

That night Jason took me out on a date! Yay! He's always coming up with nice stuff for us to do. I love it. What he didn't know until now (maybe) is that I'm content sitting at home with him, or playing video games with him, or taking a walk together. So going out on a nice date is just icing on the cake. We had borrowed my Dad's miata, and drove it over to Dawson's on main street. It's in speedway, and it's where we were thinking of having our rehearsal dinner. We had crab cakes as an appetizer. They were very good. Crunchy on the outside and very good and dense with crab on the inside. Delicious. Then I had "smothered chicken" it was chicken with a Dijon sauce, then on top of that, scallions, mushrooms, bacon and cheese. WOW. It was so so so good. The mashed potatoes were a little dry, but the green beans were good. I loved it overall. I really want that chicken again. I want the recipe. mmmmmm.

After dinner we went over to The Jazz Kitchen to see a band called "The Bad Plus". Jason had heard them on the (satellite) radio, and said they were good, and did lots of interesting covers such as "Smells like Teen Spirit" etc. Well, we got there, and they didn't. They played a couple of covers but nothing really up my alley too much. Their original stuff was interesting if hard for me to understand. I felt like they were too hip for me. BUT, I enjoyed it.

Sunday we actually went to the bridal show, and saw some interesting stuff. For instance, places that will preserve your bouquet. It looks really cool. We talked with a couple of cake people and have a couple of leads! Yay. Most of the stuff there was reception sites and photographers. Since we have both, we got through pretty quickly and headed for....

The British car show. I was excited to go, because my dream car, my favorite car ever, the best car in the world is British. This car would be the Morgan plus 8. (see illustration at top). Unfortunately, there were no Morgans at the show, but there were a lot of interesting cars to see. I like the MGs too, and there were a few jaguars that were really pretty. I got a tiny plus 8 and a Morgan shirt. Not half bad...

There was however, one car that stood out among it's fellows. It was not British. It was silver, well, stainless steel colored at least. It had gull wing doors for you to hit your head upon. You can probably already see it's picture at the bottom of the page. Maybe the best thing it had however, was a flux capacitor. YES! It was a delorean. Yes! It really did have a flux capacitor. When we got excited about it and said, "It has a flux capacitor" the owner of the car looked at me and said the words that made me love her, this stranger. She said, with a straight face "It's what makes time travel possible". I almost cried. Then we noticed that it had a license plate that said.... "OUTA TYME" YAY!!! I was so happy, and then her husband asked if Jason would like a picture of me behind the wheel!!!! YAY! See the result! It was severely awesome. I'm kinda embarrassed for getting that excited to sit in a car that didn't fit in at the British car show, but hey, I am who I am, thanks Popeye.

Labor Day Weekend

Now for the three millionth post being made today about this past weekend. It was fun! Friday night we went to rib fest, ate some ribs, corn, onion thingy and lots of mentos. Pat Benetar played, and I had no idea how many of her songs I knew! She was really good. Saturday, we had lunch at Johnny Rocket's and then went to rib fest. We saw Beatlemania Live (a great, fun beatles cover band), Shooter Jennings (really good) and The Marshall Tucker band (not my fave!) For the last one of those, we were invaded by the red-neckiest red necks that I have ever seen. There was this whole group in front of us that was so bad, we ended up moving.

Saturday was REALLY hot, and I forgot good sunscreen. I could feel my skin burning, and when I got home, I had interesting lines on my arms, spots on my chest, and the best, stripes and polka dots on my feet from my shoes. My feet were so dirty from all of the dust that I wore flip flops to the shower, and then turned the water black.

Saturday night was Sky Concert, and though we had good seats and there was fun stuff, it wasn't as good as it used to be. The fireworks didn't seem timed much at all, and the music wasn't very varied. Also, they kept calling it the 25th anniversary of sky concert, and it was really only the 24th. It was so much better when I was in HS.

Sunday morning, we got up early ish, and went out to eagle creek park. We walked a trail around a lake, through the forest and saw some interesting stuff, and then decided to rent a canoe! That was superfun. It was a little nervous making when I was getting in, but after that it didn't really feel to me like it was going to tip much. We paddled, in a zig zag pattern, straight line was hard, around the lake, we saw a blue heron who got mad at us, and some cool fish. Also a big black/brown bird that we didn't know what it was. Jason's arm hurts now, and my shoulders, but we really liked it. We want to try a kayak next time.

That afternoon, Jason installed our new kitchen faucet. He broke the old one off in his hand (look up). The new one is great! It's really nice to have a handy guy. I would still be trying to hook it up now. We went to Ruby Tuesday for dinner. YUM.

Monday was a lazy day. Jason went and bought our latest video game obsession, because we had to return the rental one. It's Justice League. We have been playing it waaaaay too much. It's fun and addictive. That night, we went to see Buddy Guy at rib fest. That was a GREAT show. He never finished a song, just changed to a new one in the middle. He came out in the audience and played. It really was awesome. Then we grocery shopped, went home and played more Justice League. I like Zatanna. Why had I never heard of her before?!
