New Toy

I love kitchen toys. I saw this months ago, and just recently, I got an Amazon gift card for my birthday. My wonderful husband knew just what we should get. Yup. He's a genius. This is what I got for my birthday (via amazon)

It's a 3 quart cast iron enamel pot. I couldn't get over how cute it was, all apple like, and green. It's HEAVY, but it's a piece of cookware that I hope will be a really nice kitchen addition.

Here's my dillema.

I love this, I went through 2 to get one without chips (the chipped one pictured above was replaced with ease by lodge) and it has a great place in the kitchen. but....

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO COOK IN IT!!!!

It seems like it would be great for all kinds of things, but I don't want to make canned soup in it first time out, or something that boring.

If there's anyone still out there, what suggestions do you have? What can I make in the apple?

I love the pot! It's so super cute, and I love enameled cast iron. :) Congratulation Annemarie, you've purchased an heirloom. That pot will probably outlive you and the next generation as well...

Anyway, I would make gumbo or jambalaya, or chicken tortilla soup. Or Osso bucco or baked beans. Or spicy Texas chili, or chicken curry.

Mmmm... I just ate dinner, and the possibilities are making my mouth water...

I can't wait to see what you decided to make! :)

I'm still here!

But I suck in the kitchen, so I'm no help.

Over at thepioneerwoman.com she seems to use those frequently, so you should check out some of her recipes.

I really like the apple. It's so cool. I wonder if it would be weird to make something with apples in the apple? Would that be bad? We should make our own Cowboy Flavor show but with apples instead.

I really love my pot, and I'm with you Kara, one of the reasons that I love this stuff so much is that it's made to last, and is real quality. I'm still using a $40 set of cookware from meijer otherwise.
